American Inshore Divers Corp.’s remotely operated vehicle (ROV) is an unoccupied, highly maneuverable underwater robot operated by a person aboard a surface vessel, fixed platform or pier. It is linked to the ship or platform by a neutrally buoyant group of cables that carry electrical signals back and forth between the operator and the vehicle. Our ROV is equipped with a video camera and lights. Additional equipment is available to expand the vehicle’s capabilities. These may include a still camera, a manipulator or cutting arm, water samplers, and instruments that measure cathodic potential, steel thickness and temperature. First developed for industrial purposes such as internal and external inspections of pipelines and the structural testing of offshore platforms, ROVs are now used for many applications. They have been proven to be extremely valuable with visual inspections, diver monitoring, working on offshore and inshore projects and also with the overall safety of the diving operations.
